At the beginning of the 17th century, Europe was on the eve of the outbreak of the largest religious war in its history. Conflicts between representatives of different religious denominations limited freedom of expression.
However, there was one man whose writings changed philosophical and theological thought and exerted a great influence on the literature and art of later times. This film, made in 2016, introduces the life and thought of Jacob Boehme.
The Life and Legacy of Jacob Boehme is the first biographical documentary about Jacob Boehme (1575–1624), one of the most interesting European thinkers and influential mystics of Western culture. The film explains the most important elements of Boehme’s writings, as well as presenting the extensive impact his ideas have made around the world. It does not shy away from touching on such important themes as literature, theology, and the history of philosophy.
